Demonstrator: Susan Hall Title: Not Just Any Old Iron

Members and visitors enjoyed a demonstration this month by Susan Hall an Area Demonstrator, judge and teacher from Northumberland.

Susan did a very interesting talk and demonstration on mining in her area and all four of her arrangements depicted some stage of the mining process.  She started with a modern design set on a bark covered insulation board and using tubes to represent woods where the mines were found, moving onto a grid design with woven fabric representing seams of ironstone.  Beautiful bold flowers filled a tall fabric covered container which represented the foundries and finally she used a wrought iron candle stick popular in the Arts and crafts movement.
