Club Social Evening 23 July 2019 - Visit to 'Whispers' Garden
Club members and their guests enjoyed a relaxing summer evening in the garden of John and Sally Selfe at 'Whispers' in Dogmersfield. This magnificent garden, which covers about 2 acres, was first started in 2003 by retired nurseryman, John Selfe. It was originally just a field but John had the foresight to design an outstanding garden, with a large manicured lawn surrounded with spacious borders full of perennials, to give all year interest, but especially in the summer when plants are blooming in bright vivid colours and with unusual tree species to give structure and shade. John used a divining tool to locate a natural water source. This was found near to the house, so he designed a water feature with natural flowing water forming a waterfall which then flows over large slabs of rocks.
John and Sally open their garden to pre-booked groups of 20 or more during July and August. They support The Brain Tumour Charity, formerly known as the Samantha Dickson Brain Tumour Charity, and donate the entrance fee to this Charity. Next year they will only be opening the garden for one day in July as part of the National Garden Scheme, for more details visit the website: https://ngs.org.uk/
