RHS Wisley Flower Show 2019 Title: Déjà Vu
Visitors to the RHS Garden Wisley Flower Show (3rd to 8th September) were treated to magnificent floral art creations organised by the Surrey Area of NAFAS. This year their competition was entitled Déjà Vu, reflecting on the past 10 years of shows at RHS Garden Wisley. The floral class titles represent all the themes from the previous 10 years of exhibits:
Class 1 Déjà Vu; Class 2 Splendour of September; Class 3 Floral fantasy; Class 4 Enchanted Isle; Class 5 All Kinds of everything; Class 6 Eastern Promise; Class 7 Read All About It (for children); Class 8 Switched On; Class 9 Not Quite Strictly; Class 10 Roll Up, Roll Up (Semi-imposed); Class 11 Something in the Air.
One of our members, Jean Warren, entered the competition for Fleet Flower Club gaining a commended award in Class 8 Switched On and a third place in Class 10 Roll Up, Roll Up (semi-imposed) - many congratulations to Jean on her awards. See below photos of Jean's arrangements and she explains her inspiration for her designs as well as the flowers and foliage used.
White carnations and eustoma were my "light". I added white painted contorted hazel and silver ting which I spread through this design. Foliage used was eucalyptus and silver painted hosta leaves in keeping with the theme of light.
The first photo above shows the items supplied for the semi-imposed Class Roll Up, Roll Up, a piece of copper mesh, white medilino sticks, a pewter coloured plate, plastic container, sheet of cork and small cable ties - all items had to be used! I cut and rolled up the mesh to make the construction (very painful on my hands) and cut the container into rings to make two balls. Brightly coloured paint and flowers transformed the dull objects into my "Circus" theme. I was very pleased with my third place in this class.
